Our electricity demand is increasing at a higher rate than the supply of electricity. This results in a shortage of electricity, which is typically addressed through load management, commonly referred to as load shedding.

Electricity comes with a cost called a tariff, which varies based on consumption. LESCO uses a slab system, charging higher rates for higher usage while keeping rates lower for low-income consumers to provide relief and cover operational costs.

For this purpose, it divides its consumers into two groups, namely protected consumers and unprotected consumers. If you want to study in detail about Electricity Tariffs, then visit the Tariff Rate. There are some taxes in the bill that are referred to as miscellaneous (misc).

LESCO electricity new tariff rates July 2023 in Pakistan

The Prime Minister of Pakistan announced a reduction in electricity prices to provide relief to consumers. Following negotiations with the IMF and IPPs, residential users received a Rs 7.41 per unit reduction. Price reductions vary for different consumer segments.

Consumer TypeOld PriceNew PricePrice Cut%age Reduction
Lifeline ( Up to 100 Units )Rs 14.66Rs 8.52Rs 6.1432%
Protected ( Up to 200 Units )Rs 17.65Rs 11.51Rs 6.1435%
Non-Protected ( Up to 300 Units )Rs 41.14Rs 34.00Rs 7.1417%
Over 300 UnitsRs 55.70Rs 48.46Rs 7.2413%

Consumers who use up to 200 units monthly for 6 months continuously are called protected consumers. For this category, the tariff is very low and is not affected by price hikes in electricity prices. They enjoy the privilege of being protected consumers. They did not bear even fuel price adjustments on a quarterly basis.

Users who use more than 200 units monthly fall under the unprotected users category. They bear higher prices and unit rates. Unit rates increase with the increase in the number of units consumed.

They also bear fuel price adjustments every quarter. They also pay other taxes in addition to electricity prices. If you want to install a solar system and want knowledge about Net Metering or Green Meters, just visit our page of Net Metering.

It has introduced the slab system to protect its low-income users with low electricity usage. When a user consumes a lower number of units, they pay a lower electricity price, but when usage increases, the electricity rates also increase. When a consumer shifts to a higher slab, their bill increases significantly.

Are you worried about your high bill? Don’t worry, we are here to help you efficiently reduce your bill. Here, we provide you with some useful suggestions. If you follow these instructions, your bill will be significantly decreased

  • First of all, check your appliances; if they are outdated and old, they use more energy, resulting in higher bills. Therefore, replace them with new, energy-efficient appliances. This will reduce electricity consumption.
  • Make it a habit to turn off extra lights and other electric appliances when they are not in use. Unplug all electric appliances when they are not in use, as some continue to draw electricity even when turned off.
  • Avoid using more electric appliances, such as irons, refrigerators, air conditioners, and water pumps, during peak hours, as charges are higher than the routine rate at that time.
  • Most importantly, try to remain in the protected category of consumers, as this will significantly decrease your bill. However, if it is not possible to remain in a protected category, then try to stay on the lowest possible slab.
  • If you have some spare money, consider installing a solar system tailored to your specific needs. You can choose between on-grid and off-grid options based on your budget and savings.
  • Always switch off or unplug your mobile phone or laptop charger, as they continue to consume electricity even when not in use.

These were some suggestions to decrease your bill, but there will always be other possible ways to do so. Continue to explore new ways and technologies that can help you.
