Chairman WAPDA, Lt Gen (Retd) Muhammad Saeed, visited the Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project, which is under construction across River Swat in Mohmand District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Chairman was accompanied by senior members including Naveed Asghar Chaudhry (Finance), Syed Ali Akhtar Shah (Water), and Muhammad Arfan Miana (Power). Project Director Engr Asim Rauf Khan, along with consultants and contractors, briefed the delegation about the latest progress.

During the inspection, the Chairman reviewed work on the spillway, powerhouse, diversion tunnels, coffer dam, and main dam structure. He was informed that construction is actively progressing at multiple sites, while the river diversion system successfully managed recent flood peaks. The filling of the dam started in May 2025, and electricity production from the project is scheduled for December 2027.

Later, at a review meeting, the Chairman stressed the importance of timely completion and directed the project team to accelerate construction activities by adding more resources. He also urged contractors to speed up quarry development and dam filling to stay aligned with the deadlines.

It is important to highlight that Mohmand Dam will become the 5th tallest concrete-face-rock-fill dam in the world. The project will store 1.29 MAF of water, irrigate 18,237 acres of new land, and improve water supply for 160,000 acres of existing farmland. It will also protect Charsadda, Peshawar, and Nowshera from devastating floods. With an installed capacity of 800 MW, the project will generate 2.86 billion units of clean energy annually and provide 300 million gallons of drinking water daily to Peshawar.
